We are a caring breed club and are always aware of the responsibilities which go with breeding.

Sometimes a cat needs to be re-homed for a variety of reasons.

As Sphynx have become more and more popular so have the number of cats which have needed to be rehomed. Generally this has not been a problem with the cats, but a problem with people. Below is a story relating to Two rescue Sphynx

The Association has had a very busy year rescuing and/or re-homing Sphynx. We’re never quite sure which is the correct terminology.

Two very sweet Sphynx arrived in October 2007. Their owners had parted company and this made it difficult to keep the Sphynx.

We were not happy with the condition of Barbie (Our name for her) as she only weighed 2.8 kg. Which is very underweight for a cat of her size.

We worked hard – bathing her, getting her ears clean and generally improving her condition. She had of course not been vaccinated so she had to go through the courses again. In addition we had her micro-chipped. It was a relief that she had been spayed.

After a couple of weeks we heard of a couple who were looking for  a rescue Sphynx – Phillipa & Steve. They had a few other cats which they had been showing with a lot of success.

They came to visit us to see Barbie. Immediately they became friends. They were very sensible people so we explained that Barbie needed a special diet -  Royal Canin Sensitivity and at this point no other tit bits – also regular bathing, ears cleaned and nails clipping. They were shown how to do this during their visit.

Phillipa & Steve were a lovely couple and we were happy for them to have Barbie. A few weeks later they came to collect her – she now weighed 5.1 kgs. And looked great. Her upset tummy had settled down and she wanted to play and run around like all Sphynx do.

Since she has been in her new home she has been given a new name – Cleo and has settled in well with her new friends.

She has been to an independent cat show where she had a wonderful time getting lots of attention and coming home with some lovely rosettes.

This is a lovely ending for a cat which was only two years old and had had two previous homes.

As we know “All’s well that ends well”
